the craft every jester swink piece is handcrafted with passion. in the art of metal and jewels, we use techniques like forging, hammering, riveting, wire wrapping, and castings. for textures we also use etching, electroforming and metal clay—all forms with infinite possibilities. we love metal clay so much we teach this form in our oakland live/work studio and other places - visit the classes page for more information.
juxtapose juxtapose is the fusion of accessories for the body + home. the lariat pieces are carefully designed to accent your home, while draping on you when you wear one for the day... true wearable art. we love this design challenge.
about metal clay the craft of metal clay allows for the creation of precious metal without torching. first invented in Japan in the early 1990s, it started using small particles of silver and gold. now we can mold and fire the clay with particles of fine silver, sterling silver, gold, bronze, copper—and soon, rose gold.
metal clay designs begin in a wet (or fresh) stage when the clay is malleable. like pottery, it can be sculpted, textured, rolled, draped, or pushed in a press mold depending on the design in mind. we fire the clay in a kiln allowing the particles to fuse together and for the surface detail to be sharpened. what’s left is truly one of a kind design.
